History of Control Technologies, LLC and Founder Wes Lampkin

The Beginning

Control Technologies, LLC traces its roots to the vision and engineering expertise of Wes Lampkin, an automation engineer whose career began with technical service in the U.S. Navy in 1989. His basic training was completed at Naval Station Great Lakes where he started his systems schooling. He served on the USS Gray (FF-1054), Knox-class frigate, and USS Spruance (DD-963), the lead ship of the Spruance-class of destroyers. The naval training provided him the foundation for building a successful integration company. During the years that followed, Wes developed extensive experience in industrial controls, automation systems, machinery integration, and manufacturing technologies.

Recognizing the growing demand for custom automation and controls solutions within manufacturing, Wes founded what would become Control Technologies in 2002 as a controls engineering and panel-building business focused on helping manufacturers improve productivity and process reliability.

Formation of Control Technologies, LLC

Control Technologies officially became a North Carolina limited liability company in 2005. The company's early years focused on designing and integrating industrial control systems, electrical engineering solutions, and custom automation projects for regional manufacturers. By combining hands-on engineering expertise with practical manufacturing knowledge, Control Technologies quickly built a reputation for solving complex production challenges.

Growth and Expansion

In 2006, Control Technologies established its first dedicated shop facility, creating the foundation for expanded manufacturing and machine-building operations. Throughout the following decade, Control Technologies expanded beyond controls engineering into a full-service design and manufacturing organization.

The company's project portfolio steadily grew to include robotics integration, custom machinery, CNC machining, fabrication, industrial control panels, electrical contracting, machine retrofits, and engineering services

Building a Modern Manufacturing Company

A major milestone occurred in 2015 when Control Technologies moved into its current primary manufacturing facility in Conover, North Carolina. This larger facility enabled substantial growth in machine design, fabrication, assembly, and systems integration capabilities.

Today, the company operates as a full-service engineering, manufacturing, and systems integration organization out of two locations in Conover, serving customers across numerous industries.

Innovation and Advanced Technologies

Under Wes Lampkin's leadership, Control Technologies has continually expanded into advanced manufacturing technologies. In 2026, Control Technologies participated in the DARPA Lift Challenge, demonstrating advanced engineering, controls integration, and manufacturing capabilities alongside leading aerospace, research, and technology organizations.

Wes Lampkin's Legacy

As Founder and President, Wes Lampkin has guided Control Technologies from a small controls engineering operation into a diversified industrial technology company.

His leadership philosophy has emphasized practical engineering, customer partnerships, technical innovation, and a commitment to helping manufacturers become more productive and competitive. This focus has enabled Control Technologies to become a trusted partner for customers ranging from regional manufacturers to major industrial organizations throughout North America.

Today, Control Technologies, LLC stands as a leading engineering, automation, and custom machinery company headquartered in Conover, North Carolina. With decades of automation experience, a growing engineering team, and extensive manufacturing capabilities, the company continues to deliver innovative solutions that improve productivity, quality, and operational performance for manufacturers across multiple industries.
